Cardboard Boxes diverted from waste to Reuse
Packaging Recyclers is proud to be a participant in New Zealand's Circular Economy
What is the circular economy?
A circular economy is a system designed to minimize waste and maximize the use of resources by keeping products and materials in circulation for as long as possible through processes like reuse
A Circular Economy replaces the make-use-dump ‘linear economy’ pattern with a loop:
A Circular system shares, maintains, reuses, refurbishes, and finally recycles products so their value stays in the economy and their impact on nature shrinks.
The linear economy pulls virgin materials from the ground, manufactures once, then dumps the result.
A circular approach designs waste out from the start, circulating products such as cardboard boxes at their highest value. Reuse comes first, and sustainable recycling follows when reuse is no longer possible. The result is lower emissions, less pollution, and stronger supply-chain resilience.
- Design smart – choose materials that can be repaired, reused, or recycled
- Keep products working – reuse, repair, or resell them to extend their life.
- Remake, not discard – when a product finally wears out, recycle it's materials
Benefits of the circular economy
Shifting to a circular economy will generate huge environmental, societal, & economic benefits. It will reduce the overall costs of economic activity, as well as reducing the amount of resource consumed.
Keeping materials in a loop instead of sending them to landfill brings clear, shared gains:
- Faster climate action – every tonne kept in use avoids extra greenhouse gases and moves New Zealand closer to net zero.
- Fewer raw materials needed – reusing cardboard reduces the amount of trees remved for virgin fibre, & water required for the manufacture.
- More local jobs – reuse creates skilled work that stays in our communities.
- Stronger supply chains – businesses can rely more on resources already here, so global price spikes cause less pain.
- Lower costs – councils and companies spend less on waste disposal and new materials.
Ultimately, a circular economy keeps materials and value flowing.

Reuse is a key component of circular economy principles. In a circular economy we keep resources in use to extend the life cycle of products. We have a large environmentally aware customer base who are keen to use second hand used & surplus cardboard boxes & cartons to package their products. Cardboard boxes that we collect are returned straight to reuse in the local circular economy.
